Cartrefi Cymru is a charity set up to ensure that people with learning disabilities have the support they need to live well in their local community.

Skilled workforce

The charity’s staff work in people’s homes and local communities, promoting independence, social inclusion and safety.

Cartrefi Cymru set up a payroll partnership with Dragonsavers Credit Union in 2014 as part of its commitment to the financial wellbeing of employees.

The payroll deduction scheme helps staff build up a savings pot direct from their salary, to help provide a financial buffer, and access affordable loans when they need them.

Staff are also made aware of the benefits of saving regularly to create a stronger financial safety net, for times of need such as an unexpected bill, or the need to make essential repairs to their car.

The benefits

To help staff benefit from a range of savings and loans schemes available, Cartrefi Cymru promotes the scheme through:

  • payslip messages;
  • leaflets made available to all staff;
  • emails to all staff explaining payroll savings and loans;
  • articles on the staff intranet.

The feedback

The feedback from staff has been very positive with employees actively engaging with Dragonsavers over the payroll deduction and workplace loan schemes which has helped them improve their financial well-being.
Cartrefi Cymru’s Payroll Officer Denise Hall said that the Moneyworks scheme helps support staff to a brighter financial future: “Our purpose is to protect vulnerable people in the community and equally we want to ensure our own staff feel protected and supported, which is why we encourage them to become financially secure.”
